To Frame or Not To Frame?

At a recent exhibition I entered a composition of roses painted in oils on a box canvas. My canvases are always stretched on solid supports by my framer. I don’t like the ready-made canvases which, I feel, are too flimsy and if I’m putting work up for sale I believe I should provide the best quality materials I can. My framer wraps the canvas right around the support and places the staples on the back so the edges are very neat. He also tapes over the staples so the back of the canvas is extremely tidy.  I then continue my composition right around the sides of the box canvas which, to me, gives an interesting 3D effect if viewed from an angle.
