Lots of Pastelling

2010Article posted by Gilly

I’ve been working really hard since my last entry as there are seven exhibitions coming up that I want to enter, all of them within a week or so of each other, plus the solo stint at the Celtic Swan Gallery in October. I still don’t have enough work for all of the exhibitions! It’s possible I might have to miss one of them altogether.

It is a problem when the exhibitions are so close together. On one October weekend there are THREE, plus the Gallery exhibition. I’ll be spreading myself pretty thin around that time!
And you can’t say to yourself, OK, if this one doesn’t sell in that exhibition I’ll enter it in one of the others, because entry forms have to be submitted early and you just have no idea if a painting will sell or not. So you really have to produce enough work to cover all the shows - and that often means you’re left with a lot at the end of the season!!! It’s all a juggling act.

However, I’ve so enjoyed myself with the series of children at the beach and have completed another two and have one more in mind before I run out of poses. I’ll have to visit the beaches again this summer and take more shots - being very careful to ask permission of parents before I do so! Don’t want anyone thinking I’m up to no good! Guess I’ll have to take a little ‘brag book’ with me to show what I do.

I’ve also just finished the first of the bird paintings from my friend’s wonderful photos. I’m ecstatic about how it’s turned out. I added extra interest to the background that wasn’t in the photo - the blurred reflections of trees in the lake - and a few grasses in the foreground, just to make it more mine. But, of course, I will be acknowledging my friend’s contribution on the work, even ‘though he isn’t a professional photographer. It’s only fair, isn’t it?

Speaking of cameras, I’m learning a lot about my new digital camera and am even experimenting with filters. With my wonderful daughter’s help I can now connect to the computer and download, so I’m all set to go. It’s been too cold here, of late, ‘though, to go out on any photographic expeditions - I hate being cold! And the weather’s also been somewhat dull, so not the best time to be gathering reference material.

It’s been a very quiet month, really, with not much to write about. There are a few more images to be added to the website when my daughter has the time, so watch out for those.  Hopefully, I’ll have more of interest to say for my next entry.
